Beawar – Pali – Pindwara Road in Rajasthan is the longest four-lane road project developed through the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model in the National Highways sector. L&T IDPL completed this project with commercial operations (tolling) commencing on June 11, 2015. The final COD was awarded on February 16, 2023, under IndInfravit.

Spanning 244.12 kilometres, this project is located in the state of Rajasthan and is part of the Kandla-Delhi high-density freight corridor. It represents the first mega project proposed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The project corridor passes through the picturesque Aravali range of hills, featuring 9 bypasses (totalling about 58 km of new four-lane construction), one tunnel in the Sirohi area, 6 flyovers, 2 railway overbridges (ROBs), 14 major bridges, 57 minor bridges, five truck laybys, three Way Side Amenities, and four toll plazas.

Notably, this project stands as the longest in the National Highways sector to have a continuous four-lane facility from the beginning to the end of the corridor, ensuring a world-class driving experience without any diversion or blockage. The road primarily serves heavy commercial vehicles travelling between Kandla Port and the landlocked regions of North India.

Benefits of the Project Road

Enhanced Connectivity: This project has greatly improved connectivity by linking previously isolated regions to major urban centres, leading to increased movement of goods, services, and people. It has transformed areas like Sheoganj, Pali, and Sumerpur into prime locations for purchasing wedding attire and accessories, fostering local business growth.

Improved Safety: The road project prioritized safety enhancements, including better signage, improved lighting, and wider lanes. This has resulted in a significant reduction in accidents and fatalities, with the accident rate dropping by 42% from 2017 to 2023 (April to September period).

Reduced Travel Times: Modernizing the road has considerably reduced travel times for commuters and long-haul transportation. For instance, the journey from Sirohi to Beawar, which used to take approximately 3.5 hours, now takes just 2 hours. This has made the route more favourable for heavy vehicles coming from Gujarat ports due to enhanced connectivity, improved road conditions, and the availability of truck laybys.

Economic Growth: The improved road infrastructure has attracted investments and stimulated economic growth by making the region more accessible to businesses. This has led to job creation and increased economic opportunities for local communities. The development of the RIICO industrial area in Pali District has been facilitated by enhanced connectivity, and it is expanding to become a vital part of the industrial hub spanning Pali and Jodhpur regions. Similarly, Sojat city, known for its Henna, has experienced a boost in business following the development of the project road. The enhanced accessibility now allows it to reach markets in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra more conveniently.

Impact on Road Users

Commuters: The project has significantly improved the lives of commuters, offering shorter travel times and increased safety. Travel time has been reduced by an impressive 30%, making daily travel more efficient and safe.

Truck Drivers: Long-haul truck drivers benefit from reduced transit times and lower operating costs, which enhances the efficiency of the logistics industry. The project's improved connectivity is particularly advantageous for transporters arriving from Gujarat ports such as Mundra, Kandla, Mandvi, and Tuna. Moreover, the inclusion of truck laybys provides drivers with a place to rest and recuperate for their journeys toward the Northern regions of the country.

Tourists: Improved road conditions have made the region more appealing to tourists, benefiting local tourism and hospitality businesses. The area has witnessed a significant increase in tourist arrivals, with popular destinations like Ranakpur, Kumbhalgarh Fort, Leopard Safari in Jawai Dam, and more becoming more accessible and attractive. This has positively impacted the local tourism industry and the livelihoods of those in the hospitality sector.

Impact on Communities

Economic Development: Local communities have experienced economic growth as a result of increased economic activity, including the establishment of new businesses, manufacturing facilities, and tourism-related enterprises. The development of the RIICO industrial area has positioned it as a major industrial hub. Furthermore, the project road's importance is heightened as Jodhpur-Pali-Marwar areas are being developed as one of the Eight Manufacturing cities in Phase 1 under the DMIC project.

Employment Opportunities: The project has created employment opportunities for residents in construction, maintenance, and associated works related to project development and maintenance activities, including toll operations. Approximately 690 personnel are employed, with more than 90% of them hailing from villages and towns in and around the project.

Infrastructure Development: The project has stimulated the growth of ancillary infrastructure, benefiting local entrepreneurs. Approximately 60 petrol pumps, 30 resorts, and 320 dhabas (roadside eateries) are now in operation along the project highway to cater to the needs of commuters.

Environmental Impact: The road project has been mindful of environmental concerns and has taken measures for ecological preservation and sustainable development. Over 55,000 trees have been planted along the road corridor, contributing to environmental conservation and enhancing the aesthetic value of the area.
