The Devihalli to Hassan Road Sector, previously NH-48 and revised as NH-75, underwent a significant expansion to four lanes, including a new two-lane paved shoulder bypass for Channarayapatna and the widening of the existing Hassan bypass to a two-lane road on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) basis in the state of Karnataka under NHDP Phase IIIA. Construction for this project began in December 2010, and it commenced commercial operations in November 2013, with a concession period of 30 years.

This corridor plays a vital role in connecting the coastal city of Mangalore with the state capital, Bangalore, both major cities in Karnataka. It serves as a critical link for the transportation of goods from Mangalore Port to Bangalore. The  project includes the construction of an 18.862 km bypass and two state-of-the-art toll plazas to benefit commuters.

The primary corridor from Devihalli to Hassan spans two districts in Karnataka, Mandya and Hassan. The section in Mandya district covers a distance from km 107+684 to km 118+400, while the section in Hassan district begins at km. 118+400 and ends at km 184+912, resulting in a total project road length of 77.228 km.

The project road's zero chainage initiates at Km 107+684 near Devihalli Village, proceeding westward and passing through various rural and urban settlements, including Hirisave (Km 120+379), Channarayapatna (Km 139+677), Shanthigrama (Km 164+831), and concluding at Km 184+912 in Hassan. A significant portion of the proposed alignment traverses rural areas, with land use on both sides of the existing carriageway primarily designated for agriculture.

The villages and towns along the project highway are economically prosperous, thanks to activities like coconut plantations and other commercial ventures. In addition to the transportation of regular goods, this highway serves as a crucial route connecting important tourist destinations such as Shravanabelagola, Belur, Halebedu, Dharmasthala, Subramanaya, Horanadu, and more.

Benefits of the Project Road

Enhanced Connectivity: The project stretch has significantly enhanced intra-state connectivity, offering a seamless, safe, and expedited travel experience for commuters, bridging the gap from villages to District Headquarters and ultimately to the capital city, Bengaluru

Improved Safety: The project prioritizes safety with enhanced features like improved signage, better lighting, and wider lanes, which have resulted in a notable reduction in accidents and fatalities along this vital roadway.

Reduced Travel Times: Modernizing this road has greatly reduced travel times for both commuters and long-haul transportation. This enhancement in efficiency has led to substantial savings in fuel consumption.

Economic Growth: National Highway 75 has played a pivotal role in providing uninterrupted connectivity to Karnataka's heritage monuments, thereby giving a substantial boost to the tourism sector. This, in turn, has led to the creation of sustainable employment opportunities in the region, fostering economic growth and prosperity.

Impact on Road Users

Commuters: With shorter travel times and increased safety, commuters enjoy an improved quality of life as they navigate this well-maintained roadway.

Truck Drivers: Long-haul truck drivers benefit significantly from reduced transit times and lower operating costs. These improvements enhance the efficiency of the logistics industry, supporting the smooth movement of goods.

Tourists: Improved road conditions in the region have made it more attractive to tourists. This boost in tourism has a positive impact on local businesses in the hospitality industry, contributing to the overall economic development of the area.

Impact on Communities

Economic Development: Local communities have experienced notable economic growth due to increased economic activity, which includes the establishment of new businesses and the growth of manufacturing and tourism-related enterprises. Various economic sectors, including steel, cement, the automotive industry, and real estate, receive a significant boost from road construction activities along NH 75. Looking ahead, NH 75 is poised to become an indispensable network for driving the economic growth of our state.

Employment Opportunities: The project has played a crucial role in creating job opportunities for local residents. These opportunities encompass various aspects, including construction, maintenance, and the associated works required for the development and ongoing maintenance of the project. Job openings also extend to toll operations.

Infrastructure Development: The implementation of the project has led to significant developments in ancillary infrastructure. This includes the establishment of hotels, restaurants, and service stations, which benefit local entrepreneurs and further contribute to the region's economic development.

Environmental Impact: Extensive plantation drives, have resulted in the cultivation of over 45,000 median and avenue plants along the stretch. Furthermore, the project has initiated measures to control greenhouse emissions, such as implementing solar rooftop installations at our plazas, establishing electric vehicle charging stations, and incorporating rainwater harvesting facilities throughout the project corridor. Continuous monitoring and improvement practices are in place to ensure a positive impact on the environment and promote sustainability.
